Las mujeres escritoras dominan la lista de los 100 mejores libros en Inglaterra.

Esta noticia me ha satisfecho especialmente.

La BBC ha creado una lista a partir de las contribuciones de 82 críticos literarios de todo el mundo (ninguno del Reino Unido). Aunque el número del libros escritos por hombres sobrepasa significativamente a los escritos por mujeres (73 a 37), entre los diez mejores se encuentran seis novelas escritas por mujeres, y cuatro por hombres o, mejor dicho, por dos, ya que de esas cuatro, tres eran de Charles Dickens.

La lista incluye casi el doble de hombres que de mujeres (47 a 24) y, como decíamos, entre las diez mejores novelas, hay cinco mujeres y dos hombres.

La gran mayoría de las novelas en los diez primeros lugares fueron escritas en el siglo XIX (excepto dos, en el siglo XX). Recordemos que muchas de ellas tuvieron que empezar su carrera literaria con pseudónimos masculinos, algo que también hizo de manera ambigua J.K.Rowling en el siglo XX.

Por supuesto, nuestra querida Jane Austen ha contribuido con cuatro libros: Orgullo y Prejuicio, Emma, Persuasión y Juicio y Sentimiento.

Lo que quizás corrobora que el mayor peso del cerebro masculino no contribuye necesariamente a una excelencia de género, como algunos suelen argumentar. ¡¡Bien por las chicas!!
